On the 11th of July, the Dominican Republic signed PREZODE’s Declaration of Intent, becoming the 27th country member of the Initiative. With the Dominican Republic joining, the Caribbeans and Central America account for a great representation of the Initiative. In the region, the countries or territories members include Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominica, Haiti, Mexico, Panama, Antigua, and Saint Eustatius. The United Kingdom and France, also PREZODE members, are represented in the region by other overseas territories overseas territories (1).

A global One Health approach is crucial to face the spread of highly pathogenic avian influenza.

On June 7th, PREZODE hosted an online panel discussion to combine information and analyses regarding the recent spread of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI). The current spread in animals is alarming. Its high contagion and ability to cross species barriers threaten food safety, security, and environmental and global health. Its economic and social impacts significantly burden farmers and poultry consumers, especially in the poorest communities. HPAI also has an important impact on wildlife populations, leading to substantial mortality and disruption of ecosystems.

PREZODE GENERAL ASSEMBLY 2023 - DRAFT REPORT

The 2nd General Assembly of PREZODE (PREventing ZOonotic Disease Emergence) took place on 16th November 2023. Under the main topic “Strengthening Member Synergies”, the meeting emphasized the values of cooperation and collaboration which are at the core of PREZODE. The event was an opportunity to present the achievements of the international initiative since its launch in January 2021, the partnerships with International Organisations and projects progress and to inform about the implementation of its governance bodies. During the GA meeting, two calls for experts were announced, the names of the elected GA President and Vice-President were revealed and a brainstorming session led to productive exchanges between participants, bringing constructive proposals. Please find hereafter a summary of the PREZODE 2023’s GA meeting which includes links to all meeting videos and presentations.

COP 28 - Community Engagement and climate-smart health products

The objective was to underscore the vital role of community engagement in mitigating health and climate change risks.
