Scientific Officer – support to the coordination of the international initiative PREZODE (Preventing Zoonotic Disease Emergence)

INRAE seeks a Junior scientific officer to work for the international PREZODE initiative. The current position is on a fixed term contract starting 01 February 2024, based in Paris, INRAE’s headquarters.

The French National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and Environment (INRAE) is a public research institution under the dual supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Research. This institute is a world leader in research and innovation in the fields of agriculture, food, and environment, and promotes the 'One Health' approach (www.inrae.fr).

WORK ENVIRONMENT, MISSION AND ACTIVITIES

PREZODE (Preventing ZOonotic Disease Emergence) is an international One Health initiative. Launched in January 2021 during the One Planet Summit, this initiative brings together more than 230 actors from governments, research institutions, academia, civil societies, health agencies, and other relevant entities from all over the world. Its major ambition is to advance research, advocacy, and international collaborations to prevent, reduce and tackle the emergence of zoonotic diseases.

Reporting to the International Relations Department of INRAE within the Priority Programmes of the International scope Unit (PPI Unit), you will contribute to the deployment of the PREZODE initiative.

As a global scientific officer in the PREZODE secretariat, your role and duties under the supervision of the General Secretary will be:

  • To organize, coordinate, manage, participate and report on PREZODE Pillar Working Groups and other PREZODE scientific groups.
  • To collaborate closely and assist the PREZODE Science Focal Points (IRD/CIRAD/INRAE).
  • To conduct and manage the scientific review procedure of the PREZODE scientific material.
  • To contribute to the organisation of PREZODE scientific meetings, workshops and events.

Under the supervision of INRAE’s scientific focal point for PREZODE, you will also contribute to the animation of INRAE’s scientific community, and more particularly you will:

  • Contribute to developing PREZODE scientific networks (launching of the PREZODE Café @international; Scientific webinar).
  • Contribute to the management of the PREZODE Priority Research Program and Equipment (PEPR).
  • Monitor the scientific literature related to PREZODE thematics.
  • Write concept notes on the latest scientific developments related to PREZODEPREZODE.
  • Update the cartography of One Health organizations.
  • Update and consolidate the PREZODE database of experts.
  • Monitor funding opportunities for the PREZODE scientific project.

 

You will therefore work:

  • internally:
    • with the INRAE’s scientific focal point for PREZODE; the researchers and engineers involved and the departments concerned; the Vice-President in charge of international relations;
    • with the International Relations Department’s geographical policy officers;
    • with the relevant support directors;
    • and with other policy officers assigned to other PPIs within the dedicated unit, to promote a transversal approach to the activity of different PPIs.
  • externally:
    • with PREZODE General Secretary and members of the Secretariat;
    • with the two other founding institutes, CIRAD and IRD;
    • with the other French, European and international research organisations also involved in the initiative;
    • and with INRAE's institutional partners (ministries, embassies, research bodies, foreign partners).

You will work under the authority of the Director of International Relations and by delegation of the Head of the Priority Programmes of International scope programme, to whom you will report regularly.

The International Relations Department is responsible for coordinating the Institute's international activities and includes a division of five people dedicated to the Priority Programmes of International scope (PPIs).

SKILLS AND PROFILE SOUGHT

(Education, knowledge, experience, skills)

Level required: Master's degree or equivalent in the field of environmental, veterinary, medical, ecology, health and/or agricultural sciences. 

Junior position offer: one or two years of relevant professional experience.

Strongly recommended:

  • Knowledge of the One Health approach and/or of the challenges related to zoonoses and their prevention.
