5th France-Oceania Summit, heads of government welcomed the One Health approach and the PREZODE initiative

The 5th France-Oceania Summit, which was planned in Papeete on April 16, 2020, was held virtually on July 19, 2021.

French President Emmanuel Macron participated remotely in the 5th France-Oceania Summit held on July 19, 2021.

The Summit was an opportunity to give a new impulse to cooperate with the states and territories of the Pacific, in connection with overseas communities, in order to overcome major global challenges.

On the agenda: the COVID-19 epidemic and its consequences, including economic, climate change, protection of biodiversity, ocean management, and sustainable development in the Pacific.

During this meeting, the heads of government welcomed the One Health approach and the PREZODE initiative.

"We encourage further collaboration to improve the international and regional system’s ability to prevent, detect and respond to current and future health threats, including by strengthening the World Health Organization, SPC, SPREP, and other organizations as appropriate."

"We recognize the urgent need to strengthen the implementation of the One Health approach and, in this regard, welcome initiatives such as the One Health High-Level Expert Panel (OHHLEP) established by the WHO, FAO, OIE, and UNEP and the PREZODE initiative."
